Maizoram literally means the land of Mizo people. The state is one of the seven sisters situated in the northeastern India. Mizoram shares borders with Tripura, Assam, Manipur and with neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. The state comes into existence on 20th February, 1987. Aizawl is the capital of the state. How to Reach Mizoram
By Air: Mizoram has a domestic Airport Lengpuri Airport near Aizwal, that is linked with Kolkata. One can also reach Mizoram from Kolkata via Silchar which is about 200 Km from Aizwal.
By Rail: Mizoram does not have any Railway station in its boundary. The nearest rail head to the Mizoram is Silchar in Assam. It is serviced by important trains and is linked to the rest of major Indian states with a convenient railway network. The other major link is at Bairabi Railway Station which is primarily for goods traffic.
By Road: Mizoram has a wide and efficient road network spreading around 4000 km with in the state. The state is connected to the National Highway NH-54. Another highway NH-150 connects it to Imphal, and Highway NH-40 connects it to Tripura which also provides connectivity to Bangladesh.

Tadmil: Situated at a distance of 85 Km from Aizwal is a beautiful lake Tadmil. This tranquil lake is a perfect picnic jaunt as it has boating facilities as well. The nearby jungle has plethora of flora and fauna where one can enjoy campfires as well.
Phawngpui: Phawngpui or Blue Mountain is the highest mountain peak in Mizoram. It is considered as the abode o Gods to whom annual sacrifices are offered. The Phawngpui peak offers spectacular views of blue hazed hills and vales unfolding below. The peak is famous for orchids, rhododendrons, trees and flowers of various colors.
Champhai: Situated at a distance of 192 Km from Aiwzal, Champhai is a bustling commercial town. It offers a good base to the trekkers especially during the spring season. Champhai offers breathtaking views of Myanmar Hills. A traditional village Rauntlang which is about 5 Km from Champhai is a worth visiting place who wants to see the traditional village life of Mizos.
Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary: Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the northwestern tip of Mizo hills in the Kolasib district of Mizoram. It is about 130 Km from Aizwal is a picture postcard destination surrounded by lush green vegetation. The sanctuary is a house to various rare species of wild animals and is a worth visiting place on a trip to Mizoram.
Palak Lake: Palak Lake is one of the biggest and beautiful lakes of Mizoram. Lies in the southern part of the state the lake falls in Chhimtuipui district. This oval shaped lake has width of 150 m and length of almost 200m. According to a legend this lake was created by a flood which engulfed an entire village. Its serene ambiance, crystal clear water, rich flora and fauna make it a paradise for bird watchers and fishing freaks. One can even view various migratory birds over here and is one of the major tourist attractions of Mizoram.
Climate of Mizoram
Mizoram is among the Seven Sisters states in north eastern India. It is a vibrant land or rolling hills, verdant valleys, rivers and lakes. The climate of the state remains pleasant through out the year. Its climate is the main reason for being a major tourist attraction.
The temperature of the state remains moderate through out the year. Winter starts from November to February with the maximum temperature up to 12 °C. Winters are followed by spring which starts at the end of February to mid of April. In April summer starts with the maximum temperature of about 30 °C. The summer remains in the state from April to June. Although the summers are not very hot. Mizoram witnesses heavy rainfall in the monsoon months that starts in June and lasts till the end of August with the average rainfall of about 3000mm. During the months of March and April heavy storms occur in most parts of the state which is the unique feature about the state. With moderate temperature throughout the year, the Mizoram climate is loved by the tourist and visitors.
